Know When Silence Isn’t Peace

Know When Silence Isn’t Peace

Real Peace in Marriage Comes When We Speak TRUTH

“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of His body, the church.” Ephesians 4:15 [NLT]

We’ve all done it. Something bothers us, so we go quiet and call it “keeping the peace.” But silence doesn’t resolve the issue; it simply postpones the conversation and promotes distance.

In Ephesians 4, Paul urged believers to speak the truth in love, knowing that dishonesty and pacifying unresolved issues only create more division and contention. God’s Word still encourages us today to be courageous and sober-minded about the realities of peace and speaking truth.

Remember, peace doesn’t mean “resort to silence” when it’s time to communicate! And in marriage, honesty, openness, and transparency are essential to genuine peace. Equally important is knowing how to address issues at the right time, in the right tone, and with the right words, communicating love rather than hurt.

When we approach difficult conversations with love, we create opportunities for healing, restoration, and deeper understanding of one another. Even when we don’t get it perfectly right, God’s grace meets us in the process.

Lastly, if something’s been weighing on your heart, lovingly invite your spouse into the conversation. Sometimes, the peace you’re longing for begins with the very conversation you’ve been avoiding!

Reflection Questions:

  1. What have we been silent about because it feels easier than starting the conversation?
  2. What is holding it in costing us?
  3. What does the Bible say about the truth we need to address?

A Prayer for Open Communication in Our Marriage:

Father, give us wisdom and courage to speak up about what could hurt our marriage later. Teach us Your truth about the challenges we face, so we can pray Your Word over them in faith. Keep our conversations safe, respectful, and H.O.T., honest, open, and transparent. Lastly, Lord, keep us mindful of continuing to speak the truth in love, and when it’s hard, Holy Spirit, guide our hearts and mouths on when and what to say to bring forth healing and restoration. We pray this in Jesus’ name… Amen.
