The POWER of Praying Together

Praying Together & Staying Together

“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:19-20 [NKJV]

You both know that prayer matters these days, especially in marriage and for our families. Yet somewhere between early alarms, work schedules, and a full calendar, praying together keeps sliding into tomorrow, next week, and next month, especially if one of you feels shy about finding the words.

Fortunately, Jesus offers something simpler than we imagine. In Matthew 18, He promises that when two agree in prayer, the Father hears… and that He Himself is in the midst of us. The Creator of marriage, God Himself, is the One who joined us, and that means three things:

  1. He’s present whenever we pray together, even when our words are clumsy.
  2. Agreement draws our hearts toward each other before anything else changes.
  3. Prayer guards a bond of peace, connection, faith, and joy!

Jason and I started praying together most mornings in 2025, and it has definitely helped us communicate and listen to each other better. We firmly believe: Couples who pray together can stay together.

Some mornings we miss prayer or may manage to convey only a sentence. But God’s grace meets us there, because doing marriage His way never requires eloquence, only togetherness. So, try starting with a ten-second prayer: “Thank You, Lord, for my spouse…(and so on).”

Reflection Questions:

  1. What’s one thing holding us back from praying together regularly?
  2. How often could we commit to it, starting this week?

A Prayer For Increased Prayer in Our Marriage:

Father, You are the Creator of our marriage, and we invite You into the middle of it. Forgive us for the mornings we rushed past You, and teach us to pray with simple, honest words. Lastly, Father, guard our bond with Your peace, connection, faith, and joy. In Jesus’ name we pray… Amen.
